Fight for Pension and Hidden Stories in Tweets; Plots the two Jury Films

The 18th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) brings two most critically acclaimed and audience applauded films under the Jury Films category. Arturo Ripstein’s ‘No One Writes to Colonel’ and Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit’s ‘Mary Is Happy, Mary Is Happy’ are the two.


Jury Chairman and Mexican director Arturo Ripstein’s ‘No One Writes to Colonel’ is the 70 mm version of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Novel of the same name.  The film deals with the physical and psychological conflicts faced by a retired Colonel who is in his fight to get his army pension. The film was one of the key attractions of film festivals including Cannes.


Mary Is Happy, Mary Is Happy is produced by Jury member and Thai director Aditya Assarat. The film, directed by Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit, is first of its kind feature film which is an interesting alliance of Social Media and Cinema. The plot of the film is based on the 410 consecutive tweets posted in the twitter account.  The film was received with great applause at every screening.
